There’s nothing like a steaming bowl of tasty soup and the comfort of a cozy home when the chilly winds signal a taste of the winter to come.

By cozying up at home and enjoying the tasty soup creations of chefs from local restaurants, you can also feel the warmth of knowing you’re helping single parents put food on the table and build a home for their families throughout the year.

The 13th annual Empty Bowls, Home Suite Hope’s signature fundraiser, is Sunday, October 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Every year, the Halton community comes together in support of HSH’s Empty Bowls presented by The Taylor Virtual Experience & Events.

Back by popular demand, Empty Bowls at Home 2021 will feature five soups from local chefs; bread for dipping; a ceramic bowl; a wooden serving spoon; and, delicious desserts – all delivered to your door!

The 13th annual edition of this fundraiser is taking its cue from last year’s event as a virtual/home-delivery event rather than the traditional eat-in soup kitchen-style fundraiser.

The new format, born of the need for pandemic safety protocols, proved popular last year – such that it will carry on again this year.

The purpose

The fundraiser supports HSH’s programming.

HSH offers the up to four-year Homeward Bound Halton and Homeward Bound Halton Youth (for young single parents aged 17 to 24 years) programs that provide a single parent facing homelessness or who is precariously housed, stable housing. That is augmented with support, case management, life skills, academic upgrading and more to stabilize the parent and their family so the parent can move into the second and third year of the program – college.

In those years, the parent studies a two-year diploma program through Sheridan College. Upon graduation, the parent is again surrounded by a team of support that assists them in their employment search and preparations to exit the program – with employment, an income, housing and a stable family life – in their fourth and final year, if necessary.

The supports include housing, grocery and necessities, school supplies, special treats, life skills, case management, advocacy, education, networking and employment readiness training and search. It includes mentoring and networking with local business people.

Tickets to Empty Bowls At Home 2021 officially go on sale to the public September 15, 2021.

No bowl is left empty, with every ticket purchase and donation helping a family take one step forward on their journey from a state of homelessness to self-sufficiency.

As of June 2021, 76 individuals have received services through Homeward Bound Halton, 17-parents have received their post-secondary diploma; 80% of HSH Homeward Bound Halton graduates have transitioned off of social assistance; 90% maintain market-value rent independently, and 90% exited the program employed! Thanks to our wonderful partners, each family can expect almost 80% of their wraparound supports every year- and your support helps us bridge the funding gap.

About HSH

Home Suite Hope unites a network of vital support services for single parents and their children—to encourage and support them as they journey from poverty to stability. Poverty, and the hopelessness it fosters, is often passed on from one generation to the next. Children growing up in poverty learn to believe education and secure employment are beyond their reach. Without empowerment, they may not have the tools and support to think beyond their microcosm of despair. Often these individuals do not choose the most promising path, and seek shorter-term sustenance, which constricts a life-long flourishing. Together, we are transforming the patterns of poverty – to a legacy of empowered prosperity. One family at a time.
